Coldigioco, Italy 2016
During the first half of the summer of 2016 I traveled to the Geological Observatory in Coldigioco, Italy with my Geosciences degree program. Here we spent six weeks working on field techniques and learning how to directly apply the knowledge we have gained within the classroom in order to determine what is occurring in natural systems and why. We created geological maps of the San Vitore area, measured and determined Milankovitch cyclical analyses in two different areas, and measured and created accurate cross sections concerning turbidite deposition in several areas and correlated them with other cross sections to determine what occurred in the area, among many other projects. In studying in Italy, I was able to learn hands on aspects of the work I would need to complete when I attend field school with Penn State while being exposed to the culture and lifestyle of Italy simultaneously. I was able to learn so much from my time in Italy and I know that the skills I gained and honed while participating in the trip will be invaluable as I move forward in achieving my collegiate and professional goals.
