Guanajuato, Mexico (2014)
During spring break 2014, I took my second opportunity to travel abroad with Penn State as a high school student. For this trip, I traveled with Dr. Karen Kackley and the Biology department at Penn State Lehigh Valley. During the class associated with the trip, as well as throughout the trip itself, we learned about the issues surrounding the lack of resources available to farmers in Guanajuato, Mexico, as well as the measures they were taking to reduce water usage throughout the area and solve the problems attributed with the dwindling of resources. We were placed into groups and paired with a few students from the University of Guanajuato to complete research projects based on the sites we saw and things we learned throughout the trip. Through participating in this trip I was able to learn much more about a topic and culture of which I had no previous knowledge, as well as learning that when I hear a foreign language my first instinct is to respond in French...I truly enjoyed the time I spent in Mexico and with the students and professors of the University of Guanajuato.
