I have spent much of my life reading. I read at my desk, in my chair, while waiting for appointments and meetings, before classes, in the passenger seat of a car...you name the place and I have most likely read there. Much like some cannot live without their phones, I cannot live without books. As a result of this lifelong love of reading, I also came to appreciate the ability to place my thoughts and ideas down on a page, where anyone can read the dark grey of the graphite, or black of the ink, against the stark white of the previously unaltered page. As I find stories an integral part of the human experience, writing them, giving them life and love and meaning is just as important, however, not necessarily more so. As such, I love to write, and I love to write in a way that seeks to transform even the most ordinary of events and ideas into something worth living and breathing, until the event speaks to us in a way in which we never before considered possible. In writing we find tethers of humanity which connect us together with the human experience, something which is larger and more potent than any one of us alone. In writing we find lyrics of a song we never knew we forgot, and meaning in even the smallest of chances. And in writing, we find ourselves between the lines.
A Cornerstone of HumanityAn essay which I wrote for a Paterno fellows essay contest, A Cornerstone of Humanity analyzes the importance which books hold, and will likely continue to hold within our societies. With the advent, and widespread increased use, of the internet and the expanse of information which we are now capable of readily accessing, some believe that books might face an additional challenge and no longer hold the importance they once did, whether it be in terms of garnering information or pure enjoyment. However, books hold a level of importance which the internet is largely unable to replicate, and it is this additional layer of meaning which is more fully explored in the essay located below.

ImmortalsThis essay expounds upon the importance and influence of memories, and the effects which they can have upon us for years after we think we have forgotten them. Inspired by my experiences abroad, this essay attempts to describe a memory and how that all that we are is created from layers upon layers of our experiences and memories and how they work to shape not only ourselves, but also the world around us.
